What is the affinity metric and how is it calculated?

The affinity of one topic with other topics can be understood as the likelihood that a person who watches topic A will also be interested in the content of a given topic B. The more people consume both topics, the stronger the relationship between them, and this relationship is expressed through the Relationship metric. In other words, if a topic has a very high relationship value with another topic, there is a strong chance that the audience of the first topic will also engage with the second. Conversely, if the relationship value is comparatively low, a smaller portion of the first topic’s audience is expected to engage with the second.

How is is calculated?

To reach that estimation, we measure the incidence of creators that post about Topic A that are also producing content on Topic B. That means audiences engaged with one would also be exposed (and probably interested) in the other. Higher incidences are indicators of more closely related topics. This information is represented by the relationship metric, available on the affinity page.

+ The metric is based on creators posting across multiple topics, assuming their audiences consume varied content.

+ High overlap of creators between two topics indicates a strong relationship and shared audience.

+ Analysis also considers video volume and engagement levels.

+ Together, these factors estimate how topics and subtopics are correlated from an audience perspective.
